Port Douglas Race Week

Posted by

We have just returned from sailing on the NACRA 36 at Port Douglas doing the Clipper Cup as part of race week.

The boat has under gone a refit since the last time I had sailed on it and its a easy to see why this is the flag ship of the NACRA fleet. With a new taller carbon mast, larger square top main and new carbon sails, centre consul with electrics, tramp lowered on the inside of the hull to allow easier winching and a few other options its a weapon.

The breeze was over 20 knots for most of the week and peaked at 27. We opted to only run the smaller kite all week.

We were undefeated all week, winning line honours and handicap in each race. The boat sits between 12.5 to 14 knots to windward and 2 sail reaches above 21 and runs under small kite around 23-24 knots with ease. Higher speeds are possible, but we had 5 to 6 foot seas all week as well and sailed well within our safety limits.

Thanks to owner Mal for the chance to sail the week and Luke who skippered, plus Roscoe and Gordo.

The boat is available for sale, on a custom trailer. More details and photos to follow.
